Actually, no. Telisha Jones is the creator and writer behind Xania. Telisha recently learned how to use AI to create. While Telisha is using AI a lot to create the songs, she insists that she writes the lyrics to the songs herself. In just a few months Telisha went from learning how to use AI to a $3 million record deal for Xania.
How is she doing this?
Telisha says she uses Suno to create the music. After writing the lyrics, she inputs them into Suno along with prompts to include characteristics she desires for the song. Suno will give her two optional songs for each prompt. Telisha then repeats this process until she gets the sound she is looking for. Telisha also used OpenArt to create Xania’s looks.
Are people really listening to an AI artist?
Yes. Xania recently charted on Billboards Adult R&B Airplay for 3 weeks and has peaked at the 27th spot so far. Additionally, she has multiple millions of streams on Spotify and Apple Music.
My Take
I think it is amazing that Telisha was able to convert learning something new into a 3 million dollar deal in just a few months. I am curious about how she will keep the sound and look of Xania consistent as she uses tools created by others.
Of course I am also concerned about what this means for artistry going forward. Telisha is using her creativity by writing the lyrics, but the music and singing are AI. How will this affect human artists? And what happens when it is time to do a tour or attend an awards show? Who or what will we celebrate?
