Japan just kicked off its World Expo 2025 in Osaka this week. I expect that a lot of tech will be featured at this event meant to capture the worlds attention. Let’s chat.
What is a World Expo?
Maybe you’ve heard of the World’s Fair, like the one held in Chicago in 1893. This expo is very much in line with that one.
World Expos are intended to bring countries together and showcase culture and technology. They happen every five years and can last up to 6 months. The International Exhibitions Bureau oversees the World Expo and selects the location. Each expo has a theme that addresses some common issue all countries face.
What is happening at the World Expo 2025
Osaka’s expo, with the theme “Designing Future Society for Our Lives”, started April 13th and will run until October 13th. The expo is hosting nearly 160 countries and expects to draw around 28 million visitors.
Each participating country, including the US, will have some type of booth or pavilion to highlight their country. The expo features fun and informative exhibits intended to spur the imagination and promote global unity.
Technology has traditionally been highlighted at these expos, so it will be interesting to see what emerges from this one.
